Students at The Maelor School, Penley are celebrating some of the school’s best-ever results, which have secured places at some of the UK's leading universities, including the University of Cambridge, Warwick, Bath, Lancaster and Loughborough.

The highly successful cohort achieved impressive outcomes across a broad range of subjects, with particularly strong performances in STEM disciplines and 34% of all grades awarded at A-A. With 60% of grades achieved at A-B, these results rank amongst the strongest ever achieved by students at The Maelor School.

A number of students achieved exceptional individual results and have secured places on highly competitive university courses, including Medicine, Natural Sciences, Engineering, Economics and Law. The results reflect the hard work, ambition and commitment of students, supported by dedicated staff and families throughout their Maelor Sixth journey.

Among the highest achievers were:

Head of Sixth Form and Associate Assistant Headteacher Dyfan Williams said:

“In my first year as Head of Sixth Form, I am incredibly proud of this exceptional year group. Their achievements are the result of an outstanding work ethic, a determination to succeed and the strong support network they have provided each other along the way.

They have set a fantastic example to our younger students who should look to them as role models, not only for their academic grades, but because of the determination and positivity they have shown throughout their sixth form journey.

Their results are richly deserved, and we celebrate their success with great pride and wish them the very best of luck in their future endeavours.”

Headteacher Leanne Eyre commented:

“These results are a clear demonstration of the outstanding partnership between staff, students and families, and a recognition of the unique support, care and guidance that we offer students at Maelor Sixth.

I am extremely proud that our 2026 cohort has delivered some of the best results we have seen at The Maelor School. Their success reflects not only academic excellence and the close pastoral care we offer, but also the ambition, resilience and character they have demonstrated throughout their time with us.

We are delighted to see students progressing to some of the country's most prestigious universities and highly competitive courses. These achievements reinforce the strength of the sixth form experience we provide and reflect the exceptional dedication of both our students and staff. We look forward to following their future achievements and celebrating all that they go on to accomplish.”

The Maelor Sixth welcomes students from The Maelor School as well as neighbouring secondary schools across Wrexham and Shropshire. Students wishing to join the sixth form for the new academic year are invited to attend the Sixth Form Registration Event on GCSE Results Day, Thursday 20 August, from 10am.

As another successful cohort embarks on the next stage of their education and careers, the whole Maelor community joins in congratulating them on their remarkable achievements and wishing them every success for the future.
