- If done regularly, homework can be equivalent to an additional year of study.
- Homework helps to prepare you for examinations at GCSE and A Level. It contributes to making you an independent learner.
- It reinforces learning and helps you to better understand concepts taught in class.
- It can help you become more motivated to learn.
- It helps you to develop your organisational skills outside of the classroom.
Years 7, 8, & 9 will be set homework once a fortnight, Years 10 & 11 will be set homework once a week.
- Often, you will be set short activities which build on prior learning.
- There could also be tasks involving research for a new topic of study.
- You could be set electronic activities on Google Classroom.
- You might be asked to revise for an assessment.
- Sometimes, you will receive longer tasks such as extended writing.



Top Tips
- Write it down - Note your homework clearly in the planner and write the deadline.
- Do it early - Don’t leave it until the last minute; this will give you time to ask for help.
- Don’t rush it - Allow a block of time to complete the task to the best of your ability.
- Plan it - Use your planner to manage your time effectively.
- Get organised - Make sure you have everything you need to complete the task.
- Don’t get distracted - Put your phone away and focus on the work unless you need it for research. Music can help but put your phone on ‘aeroplane mode’ beforehand.
- Take a break - After 30 minutes take a short break before working again.
- Treat yourself - Reward yourself with a snack or by watching your favourite show after completing your homework.
- Rewards - You could be awarded achievement points for your homework.
