Key Stage 4
English Language GCSE is an essential qualification to have and underpins your achievement across all subjects. It is also very stimulating as you are able to take part in debates, prepare and give presentations. You will develop your writing and speaking skills to a high standard and the set texts are interesting and thought-provoking. English Literature is an additional qualification that all students are entered for and is designed to develop your analytical skills. It complements the English Language GCSE whilst at the same time improves your understanding of literature. Results in this subject are very good.
Both subjects prepare students for achievement in any subject but a particular interest in either language or literature can lead to a career in journalism or education. However a ’C’ grade in English is a requirement for any university or college course and most apprenticeships ask for it as well.
