Aim of the departments

Within Humanities our aims are:

  • To develop ethical, informed citizens who understand their identity, culture, and heritage.
  • To instil an appreciation of the diversity and complexity of the world and respect other people's perspectives, values, and beliefs.
  • To provide knowledge of past and current global issues to enable learners to take action for a sustainable and just future.
  • To build curiosity about the natural world, human behaviour, and social phenomena.
  • To encourage learners to critically analyse and evaluate evidence, as well as drawing conclusions.
  • To help learners to understand their place in the world and develop resilience to navigate social, moral, and emotional challenges.

Brief description of the structure of the curriculum

Learners are taught a combined Humanities curriculum by specialist teachers in Years 7 and 8.

In Year 9 learners are taught History, Geography and Religious Education separately.

In Years 10 and 11, History, Geography and Business Studies are optional subjects at GCSE. Level 2 Agored Cymru Religious Education is studied by all students in Years 10 and 11.

History, Geography, Business Studies and Religious Education are all studied at A-Level as is Government and Politics.
