Governors Response to 4th Week letter from LA
(Posted on 25/06/20)On the 19th June the Maelor School published a letter from Wrexham County Borough Council. The letter stated, “it has been decided that the original term dates will be adhered to and that the Council does not propose to ask teaching and other school staff to volunteer and, therefore, schools in the County Borough will close for the summer holidays on 17th July.”
The Governors have considered the letter in partnership with the Head Teacher and senior leadership team, and agreed the school will open on 29th June as planned and run the special timetable for three weeks and close for the Summer Holiday on 17th July in line with the recommendation of the Council.
The Governors believe that the long term interests of all students are better served by the possibility of a full week of teaching in October than one day’s attendance at the end of the Summer Term and a longer Autumn break.
The Governors wish to thank all the staff for their professionalism and support in dealing with a quickly changing situation and their determination and enthusiasm to provide the best possible opportunities for our students.
The Governors also recognise the difficulties many families have experienced during the coronavirus lockdown; many of the governors have been balancing the same mix of work home schooling and caring responsibilities. We urge everyone to continue to stay safe and minimise the risk of contracting Covid-19.
