Welsh Is ...

• One of the oldest languages in Europe and has literature dating from the sixth century.
• Spoken by about one quarter of the population in Wales as a first language.
• A modern language used in radio, television, film, journalism, popular fiction and poetry.
• A living language with a fine tradition and popular culture.

An A Level in Welsh Would Be ...

• enjoyable, interesting and stimulating in its own right.
• essential for a study of Welsh at a higher level.
• useful to someone intending to study any language at a higher level.
• a valid qualification for entry to Higher Education in or outside Wales.
• beneficial for work in Wales in a range of jobs including local government, education, secretarial and clerical posts, broadcasting, public services, tourism...
