Course Information

French is a major world language and is used in business, the arts and academic research as a first or second language in over 100 countries.

The AS and A level examinations combine vigorous study of the language with an exploration of the culture of France and French operating centres.

An A level in French is accepted as a qualification for entry into a wide range of university courses.

Summary of Assessment

Advanced Summary

  • FR1 Oral examination (12 - 14 mins) 30% of AS.
  • FR2 Listening and responding (1 1/2 hours) 30% of AS.
  • FR3 Reading and responding (2 hours) 40% of AS.

Advanced

Advanced level comprises AS and A2

  • FR4 Oral examination includes (15 - 20) minutes 30% of A2.
  • FR5b Independent Studies Option 40% of A2.
  • FR6 Listening, reading and responding (3 hours) 30% of A2.
