Why Study Further Mathematics at Advanced Subsidiary and Advanced Level?

All the reasons given for normal Mathematics apply along with; Further Mathematics gives those students who enjoy Mathematics a chance to widen and deepen their understanding of the subject.

It is ideal preparation for degree level study. Former Maelor students who have studied Further Mathematics have said it helped them in the transition from A levels to degree course.

  1.  Advanced Subsidiary Further Mathematics; duration two years
    • Three units: Mechanics 1, Further Pure 1, and Further Pure 2
    • All assessed via three separate 1-hour 30 mins exams
  2.  Advanced Further Mathematics; duration two years
    • 6 units: Further Pure 1-4, Mechanics 1, Decision 2 (includes coursework)
    • All assessed via three separate 1-hour 20 mins exams

Qualifications Needed to Start the Course

For Further Mathematics, students will have had to gained an A or A* in GCSE level Mathematics
