Dear Parent/Guardian,
We at The Maelor School are proud of our achievements and hope your child will become part of
the continuing success story. Our latest inspection report describes the school as having many outstanding features. Our staff are highly committed and work hard to get the best out of our pupils both academically and through extra-curricular activities.
As a school we set very high standards and expect our pupils to work hard, behave well and dress smartly. We encourage all our pupils to take part in a wide variety of activities and our aim is to produce pupils who have the skills and motivation to succeed in adult life. We are very proud of our academic success. In 2011 our pupils maintained the high standard set by students over the previous 4 years with 95% of them attaining 5A* - C.
Our success has attracted a large number of pupils from outside our traditional catchment area. However, we have resolved to keep the school at its present size to preserve the relatively small-school character where pupils are known as individuals and the aspirations of our essentially rural community are best fulfilled.
We are small enough to respond to each child's individuality whilst encouraging all to play a full part in a caring community and large enough to offer a wide variety of courses. We are rural but not isolated, away from some of the pressures of urban life but in touch with all the latest educational ideas. Many parents who live outside our normal catchment area choose us as the school where their children will find challenge in a secure environment.
Parents form a vital part of our school society. We encourage regular informal contact, organise parents' consultation evenings and respond quickly to any requests for help. We provide information on our website and in booklet form if required to inform parents about the work their children are expected to cover during the year and we encourage parents to check their child's homework diary regularly. The P.T.A. actively encourages home-school liaison as well as raising significant sums of money.
During the past year the facilities at the school have drastically improved. Many of the windows have been replaced, the toilets refurbished and the flat roofs insulated and recovered. A new Sports Hall, large spacious library and two new ICT blocks have been opened in the last term. Our new bus bay situated within the school grounds has greatly improved access both at the start and the end of the day.
We are proud of the purposeful working atmosphere which typifies every school day here and we are confident you too will be impressed.
I hope you will find the contents of the prospectus informative and are able to join us on our Open Evening and/or Open Day. However, if you are unable to attend either I shall be delighted to show you around during a school day.
I look forward to seeing you in the near future and welcoming your child next year .
