Our school has recently been awarded the International School Award
from the British Council. As a school we believe that students should learn about international issues in all areas of the curriculum. The award was presented to Mr. Timms, Head of Science, by George Alagiah at a ceremony in London. Our partnership with St. Saviour's High School is an important aspect of our international work.
This outstanding performance followed our excellent 'A' level results with our Year 13 students again exceeding our target of 300 points (the equivalent of 3Bs) with an average point score of 305. |

The Maelor School is a mixed comprehensive school for pupils between the ages of 11 and 18. The Maelor School is one of very few secondary schools in the area that offer pupils the opportunity to continue their study to A level in the sixth form.
The school was established in the heart of the Maelor in the small village of Penley in 1957 to serve the needs of this extensive rural area. The school is located in extensive grounds in a very pleasant rural situation.
The range of facilities available enables us to run the full range of activities expected of a forward-looking comprehensive school.
This years sixth form organised charity fair was a relative success with the weather putting a stop to a lot of the proceedings, including the famous 'Gunge the Teacher'.
Despite the unfortunate weather, £856 was raised for 'Cancer Research' and 'A is for Africa', with stalls such as 'Needle in the Haystack' and the gladiator style 'Beam Wrestling' proving popular.

The full range of academic subjects are offered to our students. All students follow the National Curriculum at KS3. When pupils move into the upper school in year 10 they are offered a choice of subjects to supplement the National Curriculum subjects that are compulsory.
In the sixth form, all the usual academic 'A' levels are offered alongside a range of other subject choices. New subjects now available are Electronics, Applied Science and Health and Social Care.
The sixth form continues to flourish under the supervision of the head of year Mrs. Sue England. There are currently 140 students in the sixth form, many of whom have joined us from other schools.
A vibrant learning environment and excellent specialist teaching leads many students to gain outstanding results in their examinations. The learning environment aims to produce independent learners prepared for studying at university and for taking up important roles in their working lives.
