Zambia and Botswana 2008

Maelor School Plaque

A group of students from years 11, 12 and 13 will embark on expedition to Zambia and Botswana this summer. The expedition has been co-ordinated by Outlook Expeditions and led by Mr Williams. The group departs in July 2008 and during the 28 days on the African continent will carry out vital environmental and community work. This may include helping AIDS orphans or the rich diversity of animal species in the two countries.

Obviously the nature of this trip reflects the relatively large financial cost per student. The ethos of the whole experience is geared towards developing key skills such as leadership, communication, confidence and team building. The personal and group fundraising effort helps compliment this thesis. The group is currently meeting on a regular basis to discuss fundraising ideas. There is a huge amount of planning concerned to tailor every aspect of the experience to suit what collectively the group wants to achieve from the venture.

The group has utilised the 'Bulb man' scheme as well as bag packing at Asda on two separate days to raise group funds. The latter in particular raised just short of £1,600-a tremendous team effort from all those concerned. The group is looking to emulate this success in the future with many exciting events and initiatives in the pipeline.
