Mrs. Victoria Kente Visits The Maelor School

Click here for more Information about our partner school.

Mrs. Kente arrived with three colleagues from neighbouring primary schools on 12th October after a long flight from Johannesburg. She stayed with Mr. Timms and his family for the 10 days that she was in Wales.

Six schools are in a consortium aiming to work together to provide an emphasis on the global dimension in education. Our school is partnered with St. Saviour's School in Leribe in northern Lesotho. Our partners in Wrexham, Acton Pak Junior School and Ysgol Bod Hyfryd are twinned with junior schools in Lesotho.

During Mrs. Kente's visit she took assemblies for the whole school and took part in many lessons in a range of subject areas during the week. She also enjoyed talking to the school Governors, School Council and attended many other events in the evenings and weekends. See the full programme here.

A wonderful concert was held on Thursday evening at Acton Junior School in honour of the visit. Each of the three schools made a contribution to the programme, and our three visitors sang a song which reaffirmed the right of everyone (not just the chiefs) to wear the traditional blanket.

A partnership agreement, which states our intentions as a consortium, was discussed and approved on the Friday afternoon. A copy of the agreement is here.

The final weekend saw a visit to London by train on Saturday and a tour of North Wales on Sunday.

Day out in London

Mr. Timms visited Lesotho in late February 2008 to continue to develop the relationship between our two schools.

We have now received a Global Schools Grant which will enable two teachers from each school to visit over the following 12 months. It is also likely that some students will get the opportunity to visit our partner school as our friendship develops.
